Immediate Opening: Human Factors Specialist, FAA Technical Center

Spectrum Software Technology (SST) has an immediate opening for a Human Factors Specialist professional. This position is located at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)’s William J. Hughes Technical Center near Atlantic City, New Jersey 08234.

Position Description:

The candidate will work as part of SST's civil aviation programs supporting the FAA Aviation Weather Office for the development of the Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen). The candidate will be responsible for human factors evaluations of aviation weather products in support of the Aviation Weather Demonstration & Evaluation (AWDE) Services project.  The AWDE project requires a Human Factors professional who has experience in planning, designing, and executing human factors evaluations both in a laboratory and operational setting.  Candidates must perform human factors engineering functions for computer human interface (CHI) analyses, situational awareness, workload studies, human-in-the-loop scenarios, ergonomics, operational evaluations, and kinematics.

Qualifications include:

  • Able to act independently with minimal supervision to conduct and finalize projects 
  • Able to make suggestions based on Human Factors expertise
  • Develop and write test plans, briefings, and final reports
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Plan and execute human factors evaluation and other activities
  • Design and prototype user interfaces, including wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes
  • Present to customers and other stakeholders
  • Able to elicit project requirements from customers, users, and stakeholders

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master's Degree in applied or experimental psychology, human factors, ergonomics, or industrial engineering from an accredited college or university
  • 2 years of relevant work experience preferably in operational and laboratory environments
  • Must have strong oral and written communication skills
  • Experience with FAA process and/or aviation weather is a plus 
  • US citizenship or green card is required
