Human Factors Specialist

Spectrum Software Technology (SST) is currently seeking a highly motivated Human Factors Specialist for our civil aviation programs. This position is located at the FAA’s William J. Hughes Technical Center near Atlantic City, New Jersey though temporarily remote. Willing to help with relocation. The Tech Center is one of the nation’s premier aviation research and development institutions, and its Human Factors researchers conduct high-caliber, globally recognized work using state-of-the-art human-in-the-loop simulators, physiological data recording equipment, and other advanced research tools.  We combine research and reality, with opportunities to publish in top HF journals and conference proceedings, while applying our results in the near term, in the real operational environment.


Position Description:

The candidate will be responsible for human factors evaluations of aviation weather products in support of the NextGen Weather Processor (NWP) and Common Support Services Weather (CSS-Wx) projects.  The project requires a Human Factors professional who has experience in planning, designing and executing human factors evaluations both in a laboratory and operational setting.  Candidates must perform human factors engineering functions for computer human interface (CHI) analyses, situational awareness, workload studies, human-in-the-loop scenarios, ergonomics, operational evaluations, and kinematics.

Responsibilities include:

  • Act independently with minimal supervision to conduct and finalize projects. Expected to make suggestions based on Human Factors expertise
  • Develop and write test plans, briefings and final reports
  • Ideal candidates will possess an energetic personality with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Be part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary team
  • Plan and execute human factors evaluation and other activities
  • Design and prototype user interfaces, including wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes
  • Present to customers and other stakeholders
  • Elicit project requirements from customers, users, and stakeholders

Minimum Requirements:

  • BS or MS (preferred) in applied or experimental psychology, human factors, ergonomics, or industrial engineering
  • MS Degree with 2 years of experience or BS with 5 years of experience
  • Must have strong oral and written communication skills
  • US citizenship or green card is required
