While tightly coupled monolithic software architectures were once the norm, the loosely coupled microservices are now considered advanced and have evolved the Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) concept of services and modularity. Deployment models have shifted to smaller containerized packaging. Development timeframes have compressed from years or months to weeks or days, and the hosting and network infrastructure has shifted from physical to virtual to cloud.
